Musings on garuda hour....Submitted by Grandma on Mon, 01/26/2009 - 04:51. |
One score and seven years ago, our maternal grandmother set forth upon this contest a new acronym. Concieved randomly in a dictionary, and dedicated to the proposition that all things are created equal.
Now we are engaged in a great trivia contest, testing whether that contest- or any contest so conceived and so dedicated- can long endure. We are met on an obscure college campus who hosts that contest. We have come to dedicate a portion of that contest, as a final opportunity to gain points for all those that gave their weekend that that contest might live. It is altogether fitting and proper that we should do this.
But, in a larger sense, we cannot dedicate- we can not consecrate- we can not hallow this lost weekend. Those brave souls, present or unaccounted for, who have gone without sleep here, far beyond our power to add or subtract trivial points.
The Google cache will little note, nor long remember our sacrifice here, but it can never forget what we've done here. It is for us the ever vigialnt, rather, to be dedicated here to the perpetually trivial work which they who participated in the contest thus far so nobly advanced.
It is rather for us to be here dedicated to the great task remaining before us -- that from these honored trivia masters we take increased devotion to that cause for which they gave the last full measure of devotion -- that we here highly resolve that these phone answerers shall not have died in vain -- that this contest, under Pope Pontious Page 1/4, shall have a new birth of trivium -- and that Great Midwestern Trivia Contest of the people, by the people, for the people, shall not perish from northeastern wisconsin?
